UPCOMING EVENTS Hawai‘i Volcanoes National Park’s Kahuku Unit Hike To be rescheduled! We are sorry for the inconvenience but we will reschedule for some time in September or October. See you then! Explore the Kahuku Unit of Hawai‘i Volcanoes National Park, and be inspired by a place where the land and sky change before your eyes. Along the Palm Trail, the land transitions from the 1868 lava flow with its pioneer plants, to deeper soil with more diverse and older flora. The hike is approximately 2.5 miles roundtrip, takes two to three hours and is easy to moderately difficult. Sturdy footwear, water, rain gear, sun protection, and a snack are recommended. Space is limited to 25 participants Directions: Unit entrances is located on the mauka (inland) side of Highway 11 near mile marker 70.5. These plants played an integral role in every aspect of Hawaiian life, providing food, medicine, tools, shelter, and mana (spiritual power).
